Special policy packages for FPI

MoFPI has announced several schemes to provide an impetus to the food processing industry

Aug 3, 2009, New Delhi: In recent times, the Government of India (GoI) has been announcing a number of incentives for the development of the food processing industry in the country. Prominent among these are – inclusion of food processing industries in the list of priority sector for bank lending; automatic approval for foreign equity up to 100% for most processed food items, except alcohol and beer and those reserved for the small-scale sector subject to certain conditions; zero excise duty on processed fruits and vegetables; income tax holiday and other concessions for certain food processing industries etc. No state-specific policy packages have been announced so far.
 
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been implementing various schemes for the promotion and development of the food processing sector in the country, including rural areas. These include scheme for infrastructure development with major components such as mega food park cold chain, modernisation of abattoirs and value-added centres; scheme for technology up-gradation/establishment/modernisation of food processing industries; scheme for quality assurance, Codex, standards and R&D; scheme for human resource development; scheme for establishing institutions and scheme for quality up-gradation of street food.
