The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) or AFST (I) is a professional, educational and non-commercial organisation of food scientists and technologists. Headquartered in Mysore, Karnataka AFST (I) is affiliated to the Institute of Food Technologists, USA.
The association was established in 1957. It is one of the largest professional and educational organisations, with around 2,500 members. Membership is open to graduates and diploma holders in fields such as food science, technology and engineering and to those engaged in the food processing profession.
The main objective of AFST (I) is to encourage growth and development on various aspects of food science and technology. It also holds national and international conferences. The association is the organiser for the 20th Indian Convention of Food Scientist and Technologists (ICFOST 2009), scheduled to be held from December 21-23, 2009.
The association publishes two major journals such as Journal of Food Science and Technology (JFST) and Indian Food Industry (IFI). |
