Silliker expands into India through MicroChem Laboratory to ensure high-quality customer services. Time Food Processing Journal takes a look

Silliker, a leading global player in the domain of food safety and quality services, has planned to expand its services in the Indian markets. A part of the Mérieux Alliance Group of Companies, Silliker has around 40 years of experience in diverse food safety and quality services like consulting, testing, auditing, research and training. The company’s services to the food industry have been widely applauded for their role in ensuring food safety and wholesome nutrition. Towards its latest expansion plans, the company has invested in MicroChem Laboratory, a full-service food testing organisation. The laboratory, founded in 2000, currently has its central unit in Thane, with two other supporting facilities in Pune and Delhi. The laboratory provides microbiological, physical, chemistry and research related services to various agents like exporters, wholesalers, packagers, and retailers.

Under the terms of the joint venture, Silliker will support and expand MicroChem’s analytical, technological services to better serve the global as well as domestic clientele. The collaboration is also expected to enhance the company’s expertise in terms of recommendations that help identify operational problems, anticipate areas of concern, and institute practical controls associated with food safety and quality risks.

Reflecting on the importance of the new deal, Philippe Sans, CEO, Silliker Group Corp, says, “India is the world’s fastest growing country and this investment reflects our strategic ambition to expand our international presence and scope of services in Southern Asia.” Moreover, MicroChem has been certified ISO/IEC 17025 by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, and in the last few years has emerged as one of the leading food testing service providers. Thus, Silliker has decided to leverage Microchem’s technical capabilities to fulfill the needs of contemporary food companies.

In this regard, Dr Deepa Bhajekar, Founder, MicroChem Laboratory, states, “Like Silliker, MicroChem is committed to operational excellence and exceeding the expectations of our valued customers.” The investment made by both the companies in this JV is in the ratio of 50:50.
