Boosting initiative for livestock business

To boost the halal food market, especially in Muslim countries, the Ministry of Livestock and Dairy Development of Pakistan, has introduced a halal food production technology and certification system. According to Mohammad Ali Afridi, Secretary, Ministry of Livestock and Dairy Development, this programme will provide immense help to the farmers from rural areas, who are under public-private partnership. He further stated that the government will provide a 60-percent subsidy to the cattle and fisheries farmers to maintain their livestock business. According to him, about 30–35 million farmers are involved in the livestock business, while about 1 million are involved in fisheries.

The government is taking various steps such as maintenance of infrastructure facilities, planning, monitoring and evolution for increasing the livestock exports. WTO wings have also been established for better production of livestock. The initiative is a multi-stage programme that comprises mass scale vaccination and deworming that have been started in various districts of Balochistan and Khuzdar.
