The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) plans to set up a food testing lab in Bangalore to enhance the food export business. At present, members of the Karnataka food industry send samples to the Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI), which is located at Mysore. This process is time-consuming, and setting up an advanced food lab in a more accessible location is necessary to improve the quality of the food and to speed up the whole process. An area of around 3,000 square feet is needed to set up the lab and one of the locations suggested for this is the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore. Another location suggested by food industry players is Yelahanka, which is close to Bangalore International Airport. This location would help the industry to speed up the food export process. The construction of the new facility will be supervised by the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT), Thanjavur, a R&D firm under the control of the MoFPI.
