EU certifies Indian wine laboratories

The European Union (EU) responding to the proposal of the Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) has authorised 13 APEDA-recognised laboratories with the certification to export wines to the EU market. According to a report, the annual per capita consumption of wine in European countries is around 60 litres, so the market could possess potential for Indian exporters.

As per the statistics, Indian wine companies produce around 8.35 million bottles every year, and with the number of professionals from Europe visiting India, the awareness of the beverage is spreading fast. Experts suggest that for establishing the reputation of Indian wines in the international markets, a set of world-class quality standards is indispensable for monitoring and maintaining the quality of wines.

In recent times, renowned winemakers from Europe are planning to collaborate with Indian winemakers to start a venture in India. Companies such as Langguth Wine and Spirits have been observing the flourishing wine culture in India, and are now looking to start a collaborative venture in India.
